Mobile roaming fees set to reduce
The cost of using your mobile phone in Europe is set to be reduced markedly in the very near future.Following an investigation by the European Commission into the fees charged by mobile phone companies for users making and receiving calls abroad many of the major European operators have agreed to reduce roaming charges. Some of the companies involved include:
- Orange
- T-mobile
- Wind (Italy)
- Telecom Italia
- Telenor SA (Norway)
- TeliaSonera (Sweden)
This move could benefit up to 200 million users in Europe. The EC is still continuing its investigation into these charges and has threatened to draft a law making calls abroad cost the same as in the users own country. It is widely predicted that more companies will join in reducing their roaming charges and prices will continue to fall for using your mobile phone abroad.
UPDATE JANUARY 2007
The mobile network Three has announced that mobile roaming fees for its customers will be lifted in certain countries. These include Hong Kong, Denmark, Sweden, Australia and Italy. No fees will apply and customers will automatically receive the benefits without having to sign up to a special service or tariff.
